Petrocam boosts LPG supply with new solar-powered station

Petrocam Trading Nigeria Limited has said it aims to boost the supply of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (cooking gas) in Nigeria with the opening of a new solar-powered skid station.

According to the company, the LPG filling station, located on Itele Road, off Isunba-Lafenwa Road, Ogun State, has a capacity of five metric tonnes.

It said in a statement that it had over the years made a huge investment in LPG bulk storage and retailing through active participation in LPG distribution channels.

The Managing Director, Petrocam Trading Nigeria Limited, Mr Patrick Ilo, stressed the need to bring an end to the current hike in the price of LPG in the country.

Ilo called for an increase in the domestic supply of the product in order to meet growing demand in the country.

Ilo noted that a lot of people had embraced LPG as the primary fuel for cooking at home, describing this as a welcome development for the industry.

He, however, lamented the inadequate supply of the product, saying, “As we speak today, the allocation the Nigeria LNG gives to people like us is very minute. They give us once in two weeks and it is around 200 metric tonnes. We now depend on imported LPG.”

According to him, another factor that is responsible for the LPG price hike is the instability of the exchange rate in recent times which has made importation expensive.

Ilo noted that the 7.5 per cent value added tax imposed by the Federal Government on imported LPG also contributed to the surged in the price of the product.

He said, “The government, through NLNG, should increase the supply. Government is proposing the NLNG to use train 7, and with train 7, there will be more products for the domestic market.

“In the meantime, government should make a concerted effort in making sure NLNG give more LPG to the market in order to meet the growing demand of the people.”
