The Federal Capital Territory Secondary Education Board has assured residents of student and staff safety after a rise in school abductions in the FCT.

Abuja schools were on high alert for the past few weeks due to banditry and kidnappers raiding schools in the region.

Secondary Education Board Chairman Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad said FCT schools are not presently on red alert, and authorities are doing everything in their power to ensure the safety of schools in the region and that school security is essential to them.

“We do not give out information that has to do with the security of our schools. But, we are doing the best we can to make sure that our staff and students are safe.

“We are putting adequate measures in place to ensure the safety of our pupils and teachers, but we can not tell the public what we are doing, so that the miscreants involved in perpetrating evil will not be privy to the information.

“However, by the special grace of Almighty Allah, our schools are safe. I can assure you that our schools are safe. It is not on red alert by the special grace of God. We are doing everything humanly possible to protect our children and staff, and we leave the rest to God Almighty to perfect,” he said.

According to PRO Veritas University’s Fr Valentine Onwunjiogu, the university has taken major steps to safeguard the safety of its employees and students, including providing military soldiers and a police station in front of the university.
