Liverpool Will Not Allow Belgian Striker Divock Origi To Leave The Club For Newcastle In January

The Belgian forward has featured for a grand total of just 16 minutes in the Premier League this season, where he has netted once after coming off the bench against West Ham.

Such a lack of chances to showcase his abilities has led to numerous reports linking Origi with a move away from Liverpool.

But the Northern Echo say that will not be the case at all and Origi will be staying put in the upcoming window.

Newcastle fans will be excited for the upcoming window after they became the richest club in world football in October.

The £305m Saudi-led takeover means Newcastle are expected to overhaul their squad with several big-name signings, but recent reports suggest Origi will not be one of them.

Origi will provide crucial cover for the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah, while the duo are away at the Africa Cup of Nations in January.

Klopp is also having to contend with injuries to his front line, with Roberto Firmino currently facing a spell on the sidelines.

Despite a lack of first-team minutes, Origi has capitalised on almost every chance he has had to impress Klopp this season.

Although Origi is yet to start in the Premier League, the forward has led the line for the Reds in both of their EFL cup ties against Norwich and Preston respectively.

Origi found the net in the 3-0 win over Norwich at Carrow Road, while he also provided an assist for Takumi Minamino in the first-half.

The Belgium international then followed that up by finding the net in the EFL Cup again against Preston, when his terrific back-hell lobbed Declan Rudd – leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

Origi also scored in Liverpool’s 3-2 Champions League win over AC Milan in their Champions League Group B opener back in September.

The forward had also been linked with Liverpool exit in the summer, but no move materialised. And the lack of interest in Origi surprised Klopp.

Speaking after the Milan contest, Klopp said: “[Divock] played a beautiful game. People forget how good he is, it’s difficult to get into this team.

“In the summer transfer window we all thought there would be a proper offer for him, but obviously people don’t watch football enough.

“He’s a sensational striker and he did really well today.”

Klopp added in his post-match press conference: “He’s a great guy. He’ll be seen as a legend when he leaves. He could have left in the summer but football is a crazy place and people forgot how good he is. We have to decide the positions. He did nothing wrong.

“It’s difficult to get in this team sometimes, but I am really happy for him tonight.”
