Gunmen in the early hours of Friday attacked Te’egbe community in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, Northcentral Nigeria, and killed at least 10 people.

It was learnt that several houses were also set ablaze by the invading assailants while several others sustained injuries during the attack.

It is also understood that a search and rescue operation for the victims is still ongoing.

The dead bodies of those killed have been deposited to the mortuary.

Ubah Ogaba, the spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command was unreachable as of the time of publishing this report.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that communal conflicts in Nigeria can be divided into Ethno-religious conflicts and Herder–farmer disputes. While the former is attributed to actors primarily divided by cultural, ethnic, or religious communities and identities, such as instances of religious violence between Christian and Muslim communities, the latter typically involves fights over land and/or cattle between herders.
