Students arrested over attacks on teachers in Ogun

Four students of Community High School, Ijoun, in Yewa North Local Government Area, were arrested on Tuesday for conspiring with hoodlums to assault their teachers on Monday.

The identities of the students were not revealed during the press release with the Ogun State Police Command. They allegedly masterminded the attacks to be carried out on Monday, where several hoodlums invaded the school and brutally assaulted teachers Stephen Oyelekan and Kayode Olatunji.

The hoodlums were armed with guns and acted on the instructions of the students. A number of them were also armed with sharp weapons such as machetes and axes. They stormed the school and quickly targeted the two teachers.

Ogun State Police Command public relations officer Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed the attacks and said the investigation was still ongoing to decide the next step.

Oyeyemi explained that the four students attacked their teachers for punishing them for disrupting the classes they were teaching in by making noises.

“What happened was that the students imported hoodlums into the school premises to beat their teachers who punished them for making noise,” said Oyeyemi, as quoted by Vanguard.

“The two teachers were in another classes teaching, while students in other class were shouting, making noise and disturbing the environment.

“The teachers, however, punished the entire class which allegedly infuriated some of them and they decided to also punish the teachers.”

Oyeyeme assured that the students would be given appropriate punishment as soon as the investigation was finished.
